Customers of The Potato Man farm shop in Rossendale have been urged to remain vigilant after a car parked on Holcombe Road was allegedly smeared with dog faeces.
Owner Matthew Cockshott took to social media earlier this week to raise the alarm. The shop is based at Park Mill, directly opposite Helmshore Textile Museum, and customers usually park on the main road on Holcombe Road, where the incident occurred.
Owner asks customers to park considerately
In a Facebook post, Cockshott alerted customers to the vandalism, saying: “We want your shopping experience at the farm shop to be a positive experience and appreciate all your support and custom.”
Parking restrictions on Holcombe Road
There are several restrictions on Holcombe Road close to Park Mill, including two bus stops and a solid white line on the side of the road known as an H-bar.
An H-bar marking is an advisory white line typically painted across a dropped kerb to discourage drivers from blocking a driveway or entrance. It carries no direct legal enforcement on its own, but parking over a blocked dropped kerb is classed as an obstruction.
Matthew, whose father Kevin still works in the fruit and veg trade in Burnley at the age of 83, said: “We just want to avoid any further issues so we're asking customers to think about where they park.” He added: “The last thing we want is for people to be deterred from visiting us.”
What The Potato Man offers
The Potato Man's large outlet includes a deli, butcher's and expansive fruit and veg offering. The store is open seven days a week; from 10am until 5pm Monday to Saturday and from 10am until 4pm on Sundays.
The farm shop boasts almost 10,000 followers on Facebook, with customers regularly posting positive reviews.
