Blackpill Lido closure continues: Swansea Council update

Swansea Council has announced that Blackpill Lido will stay closed for several more days, with a potential reopening "hopefully later this week."

Ongoing Closure Due to Water Quality

The popular swimming spot was shut on Friday, August 7, due to water quality issues. Despite recent tests showing improvement, the council says further testing and measures are needed before it can welcome visitors back.

In a statement on August 10, a council spokesperson said: "We're sorry to say Blackpill Lido is still closed and appreciate this will be frustrating for many families and visitors."

Summer of Setbacks

The lido has faced numerous challenges this year. Its summer opening was postponed in April after thieves stole four stainless steel water fountain sprinklers. It was then drained on May 26 due to pool flooring damage and only reopened on July 14.

The council spokesperson added: "Water quality tests carried out recently have shown improvement, but we aren’t quite there yet. Further testing and other measures are needed before we can welcome you back, hopefully later this week. Thank you for bearing with us and apologies again for the inconvenience."
