BBC Breakfast was halted for a tragic update as presenter Jon Kay revealed that more than 100 people have died in a powerful earthquake in Colombia. The 7.4-magnitude quake struck the western part of the country on Monday afternoon, with the confirmed death toll now at 132 and expected to rise.

Jon Kay told viewers: "Authorities in Colombia now say 132 people were killed by an earthquake struck in the west of the country yesterday. The death toll is likely to rise as many people are still trapped under collapsed buildings. Tremors were felt in neighbouring Venezuela, Ecuador and Panama."

The programme also featured a report from Shaimaa Khalil, which included distressing footage of people in Colombia trying to flee as buildings collapsed around them. The earthquake has caused widespread destruction, with rescue efforts ongoing.
