Quiz: Discover Your Packing Persona as Brits Pack Tea and Biscuits to Feel at Home
Quiz: Brits Pack Tea and Biscuits to Feel at Home

A new survey of 2,000 holidaymakers has revealed that many Brits cannot enjoy a holiday abroad or a staycation without packing tea bags, biscuits, and even clothes for a different season. The research, commissioned by Star Brands for Lenor Crease Releaser, identifies distinct packing personas, from the comfort seeker to the classic over-packer.

Comfort Seekers and Over-Packers

The comfort seeker packs tea bags, their own pillow, and a travel appliance to avoid a kettle-less room. The classic over-packer struggles to zip up their suitcase, armed with cutlery, a rubber ring, and their entire wardrobe. Seven in ten said they would rather pack too much than risk not having something they need. Nearly half (48%) said they need to bring their own home comforts to truly enjoy a trip.

Top Holiday Bugbears

Only 8% think holiday accommodation has everything they need. Top holiday bugbears include uncomfortable pillows (41%), too few hangers (20%), and creased clothes (45%). A third of people have left a favourite outfit at home because they worried the accommodation wouldn’t have an iron. Other items travellers pack include their own towel (50%), garment de-creasing products (20%), condiments (14%), and hangers (12%).

Planning Styles

According to the survey from OnePoll, 15% of jet-setters plan everything down to the last second, 36% like some plans but leave room for spontaneity, and 13% want no real plans at all before take-off.

Nina Lumsden, from Star Brands for Lenor Crease Releaser, said: “We might not know it, but there are a host of things we rely on every day for our comfort, so it makes sense that we like to take the little things with us to truly have a good time on a trip.” She added: “Whether you’re someone who plans every outfit in advance, throws everything in at the last minute, or packs a few home comforts just in case, what we take away with us can say a lot about the kind of traveller we are. The goal is usually the same – to arrive ready to relax and enjoy the trip.”
