World No.1 golfer Scottie Scheffler will not take part in the Amgen Irish Open, choosing to rest after a demanding PGA Tour season. He recently completed his campaign with a victory at the Tour Championship, earning a break from competitive golf.
Post-Tour Championship break
Following his Tour Championship triumph last month, where he won by three strokes, Scheffler is taking time away from the game. There are currently no immediate DP World Tour events on his schedule as he prioritises his recovery.
Other top stars absent
Scheffler is not the only high-profile golfer skipping the trip to Doonbeg this week. Viktor Hovland, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick and Ludvig Aberg are also missing the tournament after finishing their own gruelling schedules. American trio Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and Wyndham Clark will not be part of the field either.
Tournament details and prize money
The Amgen Irish Open is scheduled to take place over four days at the Trump International Golf Links in County Clare. The action officially begins on Thursday, September 10, and concludes with the final round on Sunday, September 13.
Golfers competing will vie for a total prize fund of £4.4million, with the winner receiving around £754,000.
Stellar field despite absence
Despite Scheffler's notable absence, the Irish Open will still host an array of elite international talent. Fan favourites Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry will all be teeing off to claim the title.
