An American tourist has died after falling from the 18th floor of a hotel in Cancun, Mexico, on the night of Thursday, August 20.

The woman fell from the Breathless Cancun Soul Resort, a multi-storey building in the popular holiday destination. According to reports, her husband tearfully told staff that his wife had done something "outrageous". The couple were guests at the hotel at the time.

Emergency response and investigation

Hotel security rushed to the scene and found that the woman had fallen around 150ft (over 45 metres). Emergency services were called and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are now investigating the incident. The Mail reported that her husband was arrested.

Previous drowning in the area

Just one month earlier, a British tourist drowned after being swept away by strong waves in the same resort town. The 60-year-old man was swimming with his children at San Miguelito beach when he reportedly got into difficulty after entering the water despite a red flag warning.

His two children were rescued, but he was pulled from the sea unconscious and pronounced dead at the scene.
