UK holidaymakers heading to Cape Verde are being warned of a change that affects how they should prepare for their trip. Cape Verde is a popular holiday destination offering year-round sunshine, beautiful beaches, and a flight time of around six hours from the UK. Located off the west coast of Africa, it is a favored winter sun destination due to its pleasant weather.
New Travel Requirements for Cape Verde
Passengers traveling to Cape Verde over the summer period have now been issued a warning ahead of their trip. easyJet has shared an update on its website advising of a change made to the rules for visiting the island. The airline and holiday operator warns: "An EASE may now be required for travel to Cape Verde. You may now need to fill out a Traveller Entry form and pay an airport tax before you travel to Cape Verde."
Higher Fees for Late Payment
From July 1, if you arrive without completing your EASE and payment in advance, you will need to pay a higher fee at the airport. Previously, the cost was the same whether you paid before travel or on arrival. Holidaymakers are urged to visit the Cape Verde government website to ensure they have all the correct documentation before traveling.
Similar Warning for Gibraltar
This warning comes after passengers heading to Gibraltar were issued an important alert by easyJet earlier this week. The airline and travel company warned UK holidaymakers visiting Gibraltar to allow extra time for both legs of their journey due to border checks at airports. Under the new Entry/Exit System (EES), third-country nationals are required to provide biometric data including fingerprints and photographs at the EU border along with their passport details. This creates a digital record valid for three years and replaces passport stamping.
The implementation of the new system has caused chaos at airports, with some passengers being stranded due to missing flights. In an alert issued on Tuesday, June 16, UK holidaymakers heading to Gibraltar this summer were advised to leave extra time for both inbound and outbound journeys. Travel operator easyJet said: "Important updates for Gibraltar travel. Entry/Exit System (EES) Border Checks: EES border checks may be carried out for both arrivals and departures at Gibraltar Airport, which could result in longer waiting times when entering or leaving the country. Please allow extra time when planning both legs of your journey."
