A serene ride through the picturesque landscapes of North Wales turned to tragedy on Wednesday when two motorcyclists were killed in a freak lightning strike.
The devastating incident occurred on the A4212 near Bala, Gwynedd, as sudden and severe thunderstorms swept across the region. Emergency services, including police, air ambulance, and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene shortly after 4:15 PM following reports of the catastrophic event.
Eyewitnesses described harrowing scenes as the violent storm erupted without warning. The two riders, whose identities have not yet been formally released, were travelling together when the lightning bolt struck.
Emergency Response and Road Closure
North Wales Police confirmed a multi-agency response to what they described as a "serious incident." The air ambulance from Welshpool was scrambled to the remote location, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The A4212 remained closed for several hours between B4391 and B4407 while emergency teams worked at the scene and initial investigations were conducted. Motorists were urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

The tragedy comes despite the Met Office having issued yellow weather warnings for thunderstorms across parts of Wales and England. Forecasters had predicted potential disruption, including sudden flooding, lightning strikes, and hail.
