Firefighters are currently battling a significant blaze at a commercial property in Golders Green, north London. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) received 56 emergency calls reporting the fire on Golders Green Road at approximately 6:47 am on Wednesday.
Details of the Incident
The fire is believed to have started behind the Kosher Kingdom supermarket, a well-known Jewish grocery store in the area. The LFB stated that the affected building is three storeys high, with a shop on the ground floor and residential premises above. A substantial amount of smoke is being produced, and residents in the vicinity are advised to keep their windows and doors closed.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been dispatched from surrounding stations, including those in Finchley, Willesden, and West Hampstead. The brigade urged the public to avoid the area to allow crews to work effectively.
Road Closures and Evacuations
Several road closures are in place, particularly on Golders Green Road near the junction with Beverley Gardens. The Metropolitan Police are assisting with traffic management and evacuations. A police spokesperson said: "At around 7 am, police were called by the LFB who were responding to a fire in Golders Green Road, Barnet. Officers are at the scene assisting with road closures and evacuations. Fortunately, there have been no reports of any injuries."
