The River Bourne in Chertsey, Surrey, has burst its banks following Storm Henk, the Environment Agency (EA) has confirmed. Flood warnings remain in place as water levels stay high across the county.
Mayor of Runnymede, Shannon Saise-Marshall, urged residents not to enter floodwater "under any circumstances." The EA advised people in affected areas to move possessions and valuables off the ground.
Twenty flood warnings and 14 flood alerts are currently active in Surrey. The EA warned that flooding of property and roads is expected to continue in Chertsey, with river levels likely to remain high over the next few days.
The River Bourne, a tributary of the Thames, has its own flood warning. EA teams are on the ground with emergency responders to mitigate impacts. Surrey Police is working with the EA and local authorities, noting the Thames and its subsidiaries as "areas of concern."
