Four people have died and two remain missing after four days of torrential rain in South Korea, with authorities warning of further landslides and flooding. The interior ministry reported that as of Saturday morning, nearly 3,000 people have been unable to return to their homes.
Rainfall since Wednesday has set records, with over 500mm falling in Seosan, South Chungcheong province. More than 7,000 people were evacuated during the heavy downpours, though many have yet to return. Flooding has damaged at least 641 buildings, 388 roads, and 59 farms, according to officials.
In some areas, livestock have been caught in the floods, with cows struggling to keep their heads above water after sheds and stables became submerged. The heavy rain is expected to continue until Monday, prompting warnings across most of the country.
Across the border, North Korea also anticipates heavy rainfall. State newspaper Rodong Sinmun forecast 150–200mm from Sunday to Tuesday in northern regions, potentially reaching 300mm in remote areas.
