Chief Minister Emma Williams announced the emergency declaration, stating that the situation is becoming too dangerous for emergency crews to operate safely. "We have reached the point where it is no longer safe for our emergency services personnel to be on the roads," Williams told reporters.

The cyclone's impact is already being felt across the region, with approximately 9,000 properties losing electricity as fierce winds batter infrastructure. Power and Water Corporation has confirmed that restoration efforts cannot begin until the severe weather subsides.
Education authorities have taken precautionary measures, closing all schools across the Darwin, Palmerston, and Litchfield areas. Parents have been advised to keep children at home until the cyclone threat passes.
