The most complete solar eclipse visible from the UK in almost 27 years takes place this evening, and London is forecast to have clear skies and temperatures in the high twenties.

The Met Office is forecasting bright sunshine and 31C at 6pm, with clear skies throughout the evening. The eclipse takes place in summer, so there's a better chance of clear skies than in autumn or winter, though weather can never be 100% predicted.
Eclipse timing and visibility
The eclipse will begin at 6.17pm and last around an hour and 49 minutes until 8.06pm. For Londoners, the height of the eclipse is expected at 7.13pm. The moon will cover around 90% of the sun in the UK, offering a spectacular sight.
The total solar eclipse will be visible for people in Greenland, Iceland and Northern Spain, while the UK experiences a partial eclipse. It is the most complete eclipse seen in the UK since 1999.
