Newsboy's Nap, Tarlac, is tipped to win the opening race at Thirsk on Friday, while U S S Charleston is selected for the Brighton Bullet, forming a Daily Double.
Tarlac's Chance at Thirsk
Tarlac, trained by Katie Scott, is expected to team up with Olivia Haines in the goracing.co.uk Future Stars Apprentice Classified Stakes (2.10). The son of Pinatubo has only one win from 18 starts on turf, but that victory came from a British Horseracing Authority mark of 64 in May last year.
Last time out, Tarlac was narrowly beaten in a six-furlong handicap at Hamilton Park, leading at the two-furlong pole before being caught in the final strides. Dropping into classified company should give him an excellent chance to go one better.
Haines claims a 3lb allowance and has a solid 18 per cent strike-rate with 13 wins from 72 rides.
Brighton Bullet Pick
On the final day of the Brighton Festival, U S S Charleston gets the vote for the Harry Bloom Memorial "Brighton Bullet" Handicap (4.00). The Lemos de Souza-trained three-year-old finished second to Naana's Shadow at Glorious Goodwood last week and is now 2lb lower in the weights.
