The fourth annual Krazy Races soapbox derby in Stockport town centre drew thousands of spectators, who were treated to a special RAF aircraft flyover as part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
Event Highlights
The event, first held in 2023, has become one of Stockport's biggest family-friendly attractions. Crowds lined the 350m track stretching from St Peter's Square through Mersey Square and The Plaza, finishing down the hill onto Chestergate. Spectators enjoyed ice cream, gyros, and drinks from food stalls while watching competitors in costumes inspired by Toy Story, Minions, and farm animals race down the course.
Competitors and Winners
Teams included members of Stockport County FC, North West Ambulance Charity, Age UK, and the Royal Nawaab Pyramid restaurant. The event was held in partnership with Totally Stockport BID and Stockport Council. Devils Haircut Racing were crowned overall winners, with prizes also awarded for best design and best performance.
RAF Flypast
During the second round of racing, a Douglas C47 Dakota, one of the most successful military transport aircraft designs in history, performed a flypast. The aircraft conducted paradropping operations on the eve of D-Day and was used in World War Two to evacuate casualties and re-supply forces.
