Cardiff Half Marathon 2026 live: Thousands hit Welsh capital

Thousands of runners and supporters are expected in the Welsh capital for the 23rd Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday, with the 13.3-mile race getting underway from 10am.

The race is one of the biggest highlights in Cardiff's calendar, with spectators creating an electric atmosphere as they cheer on the tens of thousands of runners making their way past the city's landmarks. For those taking part, there will be little chance of rain according to the Met Office, with temperatures remaining slightly warm for the time of year.

Route and closures

The race begins outside Cardiff Castle before taking runners past the Principality Stadium and Cardiff City Stadium, through Penarth Marina and Cardiff Bay, and towards Roath Park before finishing in the Civic Centre.

People are being warned to plan ahead with road closures in place throughout the city to ensure the safety of those taking part. There are also changes on the rail, with Cathays railway station closing at 11am and a queuing system in place at Cardiff Central.

Elite race and fundraising

For the elite race, athletes from all across the world will be racing through Cardiff's streets in what is expected to be a tightly contested race. As well as everyone's personal achievements, over £4 million is also expected to be raised for good causes.

The event kicked off on Saturday with a Toddler Dash, with little ones under three lining up for the 50m race.
