An Antiques Roadshow guest was left utterly astounded after discovering the worth of an item purchased from a charity shop. The beloved BBC programme returned for a fresh episode on Sunday (September 27) with Fiona Bruce once again presenting. This week's instalment saw the show descend upon Souter Lighthouse in Tyne and Wear.
Members of the public were eager to present their treasured belongings to be assessed by specialists. However, proceedings took a remarkable turn when one guest produced a charity shop find.
Expert reveals item's age
"A small object of devotion with the Holy Family. Where did it come into your life?" enquired expert Steven Moore. The guest revealed that the item actually belonged to a friend in Sydney.
"She found it in an ox shop, a charity shop. Paid eight Australian dollars for it, and she said it's been sitting in her top drawer for the last 20 years, so we just want to know a little bit more about it," the guest explained, reports the Express.
Guest's reaction to valuation
Steven went on to reveal that the piece was crafted from enamel and "actually got quite a bit of age to it." He continued: "This states to the late 17th century."
The guest was visibly stunned, gasping as she exclaimed: "Oh, my God. Seriously!" Steven responded: "And it's in your friend's drawer?" to which the guest confirmed.
Value revealed
Steven then disclosed: "Well, if this was to come to the market, in Britain, it would can evaluation of 1,500 pounds. So it's 3,000 Australian dollars."
The guest was left speechless and exclaimed: "Oh. Oh, my God. That's fantastic. My friend will be delighted!" Steven responded: "Tell her it's not going in the drawer," to which the guest replied: "Absolutely!"
The guest went on to say: "I am blown away. It's so fantastic. I think my friend is going to be so delighted. She's, you know, I had this thing in her drawer for 20 years, so it's amazing!"
