A magnitude 5 earthquake struck the southern Spanish city of Granada early on Saturday, damaging buildings and causing panic. The tremor hit the metropolitan area of Alhendín shortly after 1am local time (midnight in the UK), sending debris onto streets.

Andalusian emergency services said they have rescued several people from buildings that were damaged in the earthquake. Images show that fallen debris have covered some of Granada's streets.
