The UK is bracing for another extreme heat event as weather maps from NetWeather turn deep red, forecasting temperatures above 30°C in 15 English counties on Friday, July 31. The hottest areas, including Greater London, Berkshire, and Cambridgeshire, are expected to peak at 31°C.
Cooler Start Before the Heat
The Met Office has predicted a cooler start to the week with scattered showers and rainfall across parts of the UK. However, conditions are expected to shift dramatically by the end of the week, with the south of England bearing the brunt of the heat.
Counties Set to Sizzle
The following counties are forecast to reach 30°C or above: Dorset, Wiltshire, Hampshire, West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Buckinghamshire, Greater London, Hertfordshire, Essex, Kent, Bedfordshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, and Northamptonshire. The highest temperature of 31°C is expected in London, Berkshire, and Cambridgeshire.
Comparison to Previous Heatwave
While the upcoming heat will be intense, it will not surpass the record-breaking temperatures seen last month. On June 26, the hottest day of the year so far was recorded in Lingford, Norfolk, where the mercury hit 37.7°C. According to the Met Office, the forecast for July 22 to July 31 indicates “above average” conditions are possible, with the highest temperatures unsurprisingly in the south.
