Met Office names 25 UK areas facing heavy rain on Tuesday

The Met Office has named 25 areas across the UK that will face heavy rain on Tuesday, June 30, as the heatwave comes to an end. After days of hot weather warnings, heat-related power cuts and extreme temperatures hitting highs of 35 to 40C with little or no rain, the month will close with rain showers across most of England, Wales and Scotland.

Areas affected by heavy rain on Tuesday

Areas including Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Norwich, Stoke-on-Trent, Nottingham, Wrexham, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, York and Hull are just a few of the major cities which can expect rainfall in the early morning on Tuesday. Northern Ireland will also be covered by rain showers.

The full list of areas set to have rain on Tuesday includes: Birmingham, Cardiff, Exeter, Norwich, Stoke-on-Trent, Nottingham, Wrexham, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, York, Hull, Swansea, Yeovil, Cambridge, Peterborough, Lincoln, Boston, Preston, Aberystwyth, Plymouth, Londonderry, Belfast, and Stranraer.

Impact of the rain

The rain will bring relief from the recent heatwave, which saw temperatures soar to 35-40C and caused power cuts and water shortages. The Met Office had previously issued warnings for power and water cuts across 98 UK areas on Thursday and a 19-hour power cuts warning for 31 UK areas on Saturday.
