The Met Office has identified 11 areas across the UK that will face rain and drizzle on Tuesday, with thicker cloud keeping temperatures considerably lower in those regions. Meanwhile, other parts of the country are expected to reach highs of 26C.
Areas Affected by Rain
According to the Met Office, the wettest conditions will be concentrated in northern and western parts of the UK, although the rain is expected to be patchy rather than persistent. The areas facing rain on Tuesday are:
- Highlands
- Western Isles (Na h-Eileanan Siar)
- Orkney
- Shetland
- Argyll and Bute
- County Antrim
- County Armagh
- County Down
- County Fermanagh
- County Londonderry
- County Tyrone
Temperature Contrast Across the UK
While the northern and western areas experience cooler conditions, much of the UK is set to remain dry, with high pressure positioned to the west continuing to bring largely settled conditions and plenty of sunshine. The Met Office said: "Across central, southern and eastern parts of England and Wales, temperatures are expected to reach 25C to 26C, while plenty of sunny spells will help conditions feel pleasantly warm elsewhere."
In contrast, "the far north and northwest of Scotland will be noticeably cooler under thicker cloud and patchy rain, with temperatures often held in the mid-teens," the forecaster added.
Patchy Rain and Drier Intervals
Met Office meteorologist Clare Nasir noted that the patchy rain and drizzle would come and go, meaning drier spells are also expected during the day, including in areas sheltered from the northerly flow. She said: "And even where we've seen the patchy rain and drizzle, notice it is just coming and going across the north and northwest of Scotland, so there will be some drier interlude and some shelter coming through for Northern Ireland as well."
The Met Office added: "For most areas, Monday and Tuesday will be dry with a good deal of sunshine, although northern and northwestern Scotland will remain cloudier and see occasional outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. Northern Ireland may also experience a few spots of rain at times, but most places will stay dry."
Outlook for the Rest of the Week
A Met Office weather map for 11am on Tuesday shows the wet weather concentrated mainly across northern and western parts of the UK. Despite the northerly influence, temperatures are still expected to feel very warm in many areas, with highs of 25C to 26C forecast across central, southern and eastern parts of England and Wales. A largely dry evening is expected for most, with sunny spells lasting into dusk.
