The Met Office has identified 11 areas across the UK that will experience heavy rain on Friday, as weather maps show widespread bands of precipitation sweeping from the northwest towards the southeast.
Areas Most at Risk
The forecast highlights several towns and cities in orange and yellow on its maps, indicating the heaviest rainfall. The wettest conditions are expected across western and central Scotland, where prolonged rain could cause travel disruptions and reduced visibility.
The areas expected to see the heaviest rain include:
- Stornoway
- Ullapool
- Wick
- Fort William
- Lochgilphead
- Crianlarich
- Rannoch Moor area
- Oban
- Tiree
- Glasgow
- Aberdeen
Additionally, Belfast and surrounding parts of Northern Ireland will also see significant rainfall.
Weather Patterns
According to the Met Office, Friday will begin with spells of rain in the northwest edging southeast and fading into showers. While northern areas remain unsettled, much of England and Wales will enjoy brighter weather with sunny spells. Temperatures will become very warm or hot in the southeast, feeling muggy.
The contrast between north and south will be stark, with parts of Scotland experiencing hours of rain while southeastern England sees temperatures climbing into the mid to high 20s Celsius.
Thursday 18 June
Outbreaks of locally heavy rain will gradually ease across the northwest. Hill and coastal fog with patches of drizzle will affect western and southwestern areas. Elsewhere, conditions will become brighter and warmer. Showers may develop in the southeast later in the day, with a risk of thunder.
Thursday Night
Further outbreaks of rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Low cloud and coastal fog will continue in southwestern areas. Elsewhere, it will remain dry with clear spells. It will feel increasingly muggy, particularly across southern England.
Friday 19 June
Bands of rain will affect northwestern parts of the UK before edging southeastwards and weakening into showers. Sunny spells will develop in many central and southern regions. Very warm or hot conditions are expected in the southeast.
