A powerboat racer has died after his vessel collided with a houseboat during a race in Suffolk. The incident occurred at Oulton Broad on Thursday evening, according to Suffolk Police.
The driver, named by the Circuit Powerboat Association (CPA) as 51-year-old Brett Duncan, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the man, aged in his 50s, died despite the efforts of medical personnel from the East of England Ambulance Service, Coastguard, and Suffolk Accident Rescue Service.
The CPA described Duncan as an “experienced and popular” member of the powerboating community. In a statement on Facebook, the association expressed shock and sadness at his “untimely passing” and extended condolences to his family and friends.
The collision happened at around 6.50pm during a local racing event. Police were called just after 7.10pm to reports of a crash involving a powerboat and a stationary houseboat near Oulton Broad Water Sports Centre. The force said it is working with partners and other agencies to investigate the incident.
