UK Set for Mid-20s Temperatures Ahead of May Bank Holiday Weekend
Temperatures to Rise to Mid-20s Before Bank Holiday

Temperatures are forecast to climb to the mid-20s Celsius next week ahead of the late May bank holiday weekend, according to the Met Office. The forecaster predicts sunshine and showers for the first half of the week, followed by a drier and brighter period from Thursday and Friday, with maximum temperatures potentially reaching 26C on Friday.

Unsettled Start to the Week

Craig Snell, a Met Office forecaster, explained: "The first half of this week is still going to be changeable, if not unsettled, across parts of the UK. Temperatures at the start of the week remain a little subdued for the time of year, but as we head towards the weekend we are expecting to see a change."

Monday is expected to bring a mix of sunshine and showers, some of which could be heavy with occasional thunder. A band of rain is then forecast to move across most of the UK later in the day. Blustery conditions are anticipated on Tuesday, with wind and rain, sometimes heavy, accompanied by thunder.

Gradual Warming

Temperatures will begin to climb closer to the seasonal average for late May. On Wednesday, a mixture of sunshine and showers is expected, but temperatures in southern England will rise towards 20C. By Thursday and Friday, conditions will become increasingly drier and brighter, especially for England and Wales. The Met Office added that maximum temperatures of 26C could be seen on Friday in the southeast.

Bank Holiday Outlook

Regarding the bank holiday weekend, Mr Snell noted that while it is too early to provide precise maximums, the general trend suggests continued warmth. "The best of the sunshine across the bank holiday weekend will probably be across England and Wales," he said. "Temperatures still above normal, potentially very warm again, but it’s a bit too far in the future to get maximums. Indications are at the moment that the bank holiday looks a lot better than what we’ve had over the last week or so."
