The heat is expected to build from the evening of 20 May, when temperatures across England reach around 20°C, peaking in London and Surrey at 23°C the following evening.
Most areas across England and the Midlands are forecast to see highs of 20°C during the evening of 21 May. This comes after a cooler weekend, with the warmest spot on Sunday being Plymouth at 18°C, while Kirkwall, Orkney, recorded just 9.6°C, and Wych Cross, East Sussex, struggled to 11.3°C.
However, the Met Office's long-range forecast for 15 to 24 May warns of changeable and unsettled conditions, with periods of rain or heavy showers expected before the warm blast. Temperatures are likely to be close to or slightly below normal, with northwesterly winds dominating. Towards the end of the period, pressure may increase from the southwest, bringing drier weather.
