Scotland to Reach 27°C Next Week as Met Office Predicts Sunny Start to School Holidays
Scotland to Hit 27°C Next Week with Met Office Sunny Forecast

Scotland is expected to be hit with soaring temperatures next week, with weather maps showing temperatures up to 27°C by the end of next week. This comes as the Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for extreme heat for the south of England covering Monday, June 22, to Tuesday, June 23. While temperatures will be cooler in Scotland, a warmer spell is on the horizon.

Weekend Weather Outlook

While there are expected to still be a few scattered showers across Scotland tomorrow (June 20), the Met Office is predicting that temperatures will rise to 22°C in Dumfries on Sunday, June 21, with Jedburgh and Glasgow not far behind at 21°C, which is ideal for revellers going to the third day of the TRNSMT festival.

Rising Temperatures Next Week

According to the national forecaster's weather maps, this rise in mercury will continue into next week as many areas in the south of Scotland are expected to hit 24°C by later afternoon on Monday, June 22. This warm front can also be seen up in the Highlands, with Pitlochry set to hit 21°C while Fort William soaks up 22°C.

Temperatures look to remain in the high teens to low twenties as the week continues, with flurries of rain and cloud covering the north and north west of Scotland on Wednesday, June 24. However, the ideal day to get your sunglasses on and head to the beach is predicted to be Friday, June 26.

Friday's Heat Peak

Scots can expect to once again have to battle with warmer temperatures throughout the evenings, as the Met Office is estimating that mercury will be sitting between 13°C to 17°C throughout Scotland in the wee hours of Friday morning. These temperatures are then expected to rise throughout the day, before peaking at around 4pm. Scots living in Ayr are currently predicted to get the most of the warm spell as forecasters are estimating highs of 27°C in the area.

Following not too far behind are Dumfries, Cumnock, and Glasgow, which are also set to be sweltering in 26°C. If Scots don't already have a fan on hand, now may be the best time to head to the store or buy one online. Temperatures in the mid-twenties are also set to hit Biggar, Edinburgh, Fort William, and Aberlour, making Friday next week the perfect start to the weekend.

Cooler Spots

On the other end of the scale, the Met Office is predicting that Kirkwall will only reach 16°C by the end of the week, with Aberdeen and Wick just sitting slightly higher at 18°C. However, with the cloudy and rainy weather we have been having, these temperatures will still be welcome.

Sunny Start to Holidays

Looking at the current weather predictions for Friday, the maps are currently showing glorious rays of sunshine, with a few scattered clouds in places. With some schools officially breaking up on this day, this predicted weather will make for a great start to the summer holidays.

Long-Range Forecast

The Met Office has released its long-range forecast for the UK, covering Wednesday, June 24, to Friday, July 3. It reads: "High pressure is expected to be dominant at the start of the period, which will bring predominantly fine and dry conditions with temperatures well above normal, albeit with a small risk of a few showers or thunderstorms at times. Into the last weekend of June, an area of low pressure may track to the west of the UK, which brings the potential for notably hot conditions to build from the south again, alongside a risk of thundery outbreaks. By early July it remains finely balanced as to whether low pressure, and more changeable conditions, are allowed to take over, or whether the more settled conditions hold sway."

With warmer weather on the way, it is important that Scots remember to generously apply their sunscreen to be protected from the sun's UV rays.
