A burst water pipe has flooded a pub in Scarisbrick for the second time in three years. Nellie at Scarisbrick has been submerged by water after a nearby water pipe burst in the early hours of today (Tuesday, August 25).
Emergency response and impact
Emergency services were called to the flooded Indian restaurant on Southport Road at around 3.50am. United Utilities told the ECHO a "small" number of properties have been affected. Live footage shared on the Nellie at Scarisbrick Facebook page shows the devastation following the flood.
In the video, a man can be heard saying "flooded again. Oh my God, look at all this". In another clip he adds: "This is insane. I can't believe this." Most of the pub and surrounding area is submerged in inches of flood water in the footage.
Fire service and utility response
Pictures taken later this morning show emergency services at the scene. Fire crews worked to pump the water into a nearby canal to prevent further flooding.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: "Our team is onsite responding to a burst water main in Southport Road, Scarisbrick.
"Unfortunately, the incident has resulted in flooding to a small number of properties. We are contacting customers directly to offer advice and support and have mobilised specialist loss adjusters.
"To enable teams to work safely it is necessary to close the road in both directions. We are working with the local authority and the police to arrange a diversion route, but we are advising motorists to avoid the area if possible. We apologise for the disruption."
A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 3.50am on August 25, 2026, firefighters attended Southport Road to support United Utilities with a burst main pipe which resulted in flooding.
"Firefighters used an environmental grab pack, two mini ejector pumps, one light portable pump, and three main jets to pump water to a nearby canal, to prevent further flooding."
Previous flood in 2023
The ECHO has contacted Nellie at Scarisbrick to speak to the owners about the incident. It was only in June 2023 that emergency services and United Utilities were called to the area after a water pipe burst and flooded the Indian restaurant.
Owner Salique Meah, also known Sal, told the ECHO at the time he received a phone call early in the morning from one of his staff members. He said: "I was fast asleep when I got the call. The staff member told me that it was all flooded.
"I was waking from a deep sleep when I got the call and my mind was not working. They told me they couldn't even get downstairs." He said parts of his restaurant was "underwater" and the water reached "hip-level" in the basement. It took Sal months to open as normal.
