A flood warning has been issued for New Brighton as high tides are expected on the Irish Sea. Flooding is expected from 10.45pm tonight (October 24), with locations most affected expected to be Marine Point Leisure and Retail Park.
The government-issued warning, published on the GOV.UK website, states that the next high tide tomorrow afternoon, October 25, is also anticipated to meet the flood alert threshold.
Government Alert Details
The government alert reads: "We are expecting higher than normal high tides over the next two days, and a result, we may issue further flood alerts and flood warnings."
The alert adds that the situation is being closely monitored and that official guidance will be updated by 9.30am tomorrow (October 25) or as the situation changes.
The alert, which was issued at 1.15pm this afternoon, urged those with a flood plan in place to "start acting" on it.
Weather Warnings for Merseyside
The flood alert comes as Merseyside remains subject to two yellow weather warnings as Storm Boelo.
The Met Office has issued two warnings for Merseyside this weekend, one for strong winds and a second for rain. The rain warning is issued until 11pm today. The Met Office states: "25-30mm is expected widely across the warning area during this time, with a few places such as upland areas seeing 50-60mm, and some of this perhaps falling within 6 hours."
The wind warning is issued until 9pm on Sunday, October 25. The Met Office states: "Gusts of 55-65 mph are likely widely with some coastal and exposed areas potentially seeing gusts of 70-80 mph or more, these strongest gusts most likely across Scotland and the far north of England."
