Flash floods triggered by torrential rain have killed at least six people in Indonesia, with Bali's international airport access restricted as roads were submerged, authorities said on Wednesday.
Two people died in Bali's Jembrana district, while four others were killed on Flores island in East Nusa Tenggara province, according to Suharyanto, head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). Four people remain missing on Flores.
The heavy rains since Tuesday evening caused flooding across four districts of Bali, forcing the evacuation of 85 people, BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari said. Two buildings collapsed in the capital Denpasar, and only trucks could use roads to the island's international airport, said I Nyoman Sidakarya, head of Bali's search and rescue agency.
On Flores, the floods cut road access and phone services in 18 villages. Water has since receded there, but parts of Bali remain inundated as of Wednesday, Suharyanto added.
The annual monsoon season from November to April often brings landslides and flash floods, with climate change contributing to heavier rainfall and stronger winds.
