Warkworth Beach in Northumberland has been crowned the UK's number one hidden gem beach for summer 2026, according to outdoor company Millets. The beach achieved a hidden gem score of 9.14 out of 10, beating rivals including Highcliffe in Dorset and East Strand in County Antrim.
How the Ranking Was Determined
Millets analysed factors such as average sunshine hours, average temperatures, and water quality of UK beaches with fewer than 500 reviews to compile their top 10 list. Warkworth Beach excelled with 'excellent' water quality, a TripAdvisor score of 4.8 out of 5, and an average of 7.8 hours of daily sunshine during summer months. The average temperature at the beach was recorded at 14.2 degrees Celsius, though recent hot weather may have increased this.
What Makes Warkworth Beach Special
Located in Northumberland, the beach stretches over 2 miles and is overlooked by Warkworth Castle. Millets described it as 'unspoilt' and noted that visitors can enjoy nearby pubs and cafes just a short walk from the free car park. The beach's excellent water quality and scenic landscape contributed to its top ranking.
Another Northumberland beach, Beadnell Bay, also made the list at number 10 with a score of 7.95. The region is known for its stunning coastline, including popular spots like Bamburgh and Embleton Bay.
