Fletcher Moss Park: Shaded Walk, Gardens, and Ice Cream

Fletcher Moss Park in Didsbury, south Manchester, offers shaded paths, botanical gardens, and an ice cream truck, providing a perfect escape during the UK's longest heatwave in 50 years. Temperatures are forecast to reach 31C on Friday, according to the Met Office.

Heatwave Details and Forecast

This week, Greater Manchester is experiencing its third heatwave of the summer. The Met Office predicts highs of 28C on Thursday and a sweltering 31C on Friday. While temperatures will cool slightly over the weekend, they will remain in the high 20s. The heatwave is expected to be the longest in the UK in 50 years, continuing into next week, though lower humidity levels will make it feel less intense than the May heatwave.

Fletcher Moss Park: Location and Features

Located at the southern end of Didsbury village, along the River Mersey, the park includes Fletcher Moss Botanical Gardens and Stenner Woods. The pedestrian entrance is on Wilmslow Road, with a small parking area on Millgate Lane. History and Attractions

The park is named after philanthropist Alderman Fletcher Moss, who donated it to Manchester in 1915. He lived in the nearby Old Parsonage, which has gardens open to the public free of charge. Beyond the rockery, visitors can explore a rose garden, grassy areas, and woodland paths leading to the River Mersey. For a longer walk, paths through Stenner Woods cross wooden bridges and waterways.

Food and Refreshments

At the park entrance, the Fletcher Moss Food Truck serves light bites, cake, and ice cream, as well as cool drinks, frappes, cocktails, and wine. It is open daily from 9am to 3.30pm, and until 4.30pm on Saturdays. The park's address is 18 Stenner Ln, Didsbury, Manchester M20 2RQ.
