Lifeboat crews rescued four people during a punk festival on a tiny island near Edinburgh, with one woman winched off by helicopter after suffering a lower leg break.
The HM Coastguard and RNLI Queensferry volunteers were scrambled to the island on the Firth of Forth on Saturday at around 4.29pm following reports of a woman with an ankle injury.
Two crew members went ashore and located the casualty on a rocky slope on the north of the island. They initially had difficulty finding her due to large crowds attending the Cramisleofpunk festival on the uninhabited island.
Second casualty found unconscious
The woman was found to have a lower leg break, and the crew administered pain relief. As plans were being made to evacuate her, reports of another injured woman came through.
Again, the RNLI crew struggled to locate this person due to the crowds but managed to trace her and carried out an assessment. The casualty was unconscious but breathing, and after receiving oxygen she was able to talk to the crew.
It was determined that the best course of action was to evacuate her to Cramond Village to an awaiting ambulance.
Helicopter called in
While at Cramond Village, the lifeboat picked up paramedics and transported them to the island. They dealt with the first casualty and decided to call in a helicopter to take the woman to safety.
While waiting for the helicopter, the ambulance crew dealt with another casualty with a head injury, but it was found they did not require further medical assistance.
Coastguard helicopter Rescue 199 evacuated the woman with the leg injury to an awaiting ambulance at Cramond Village.
Fourth casualty advised to attend A&E
A fourth casualty presented after reportedly falling from height and complaining of lower back pain. This person was assessed by the ambulance crew and advised to attend A&E when possible.
Once all casualties had been assessed and treated where necessary, the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station at around 8pm.
An RNLI spokesperson said: "This was a great example of a multi-agency incident, where lifeboat crew, coastguard, SORT, ambulance, police and coastguard helicopter teams worked together for a successful resolution to the incident.
"We would like to extend our thanks to all those involved, including the members of the public who assisted on the Island."
