A man has been rescued after becoming trapped in quicksand on a beach in Cardigan, prompting safety warnings from emergency services. The incident occurred near Patch, close to Gwbert, on Monday, where the man was stuck up to his shins as the tide began to rise.
Police, coastguard, and fire service teams worked together to free the man, who was sinking deeper into the sand. Gwbert and Cardigan Coastguard confirmed that the rising tide added urgency to the rescue operation.
This incident follows a similar event two weeks ago, when a 14-year-old girl became stuck up to her waist in sand on Machynys beach in Carmarthenshire. Both cases highlight the dangers of quicksand on Welsh shores.
Ieuan Williams of the UK Coastguard advised: 'Stay calm and call 999. Anybody trapped should also discourage other well-meaning members of the public from attempting to rescue them because without the proper equipment they could become stuck too.'
