An 11-year-old girl has died after an incident in the water at a beauty spot in Cornwall. Emergency services were called to Wacker Quay on the Lynher River near Torpoint at about 6pm on Saturday after reports of a person in the water.
The girl, from South Devon, was recovered and given emergency treatment but was pronounced dead at the scene. Devon and Cornwall Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Separately, North Yorkshire Police confirmed that a body was recovered from the River Swale in Richmond at 10.45pm on Saturday during a search for a missing 12-year-old boy. The boy had reportedly entered the river at about 5pm. The body has yet to be identified, but the boy's family have been informed and are receiving support. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
