Flash floods in the south-eastern Spanish town of Madrigueras have left a 102-year-old woman dead and prompted the rescue of 90 people by firefighters.
The town was swamped by 142 litres of rain per square metre in just two and a half hours on Friday. Streets were submerged, vehicles were stranded, businesses were damaged and residents were trapped in their homes.
Record summer heat
The flooding follows the hottest summer on record in Spain, where more than 2,000 people are thought to have died from heat-related causes in August.
