13 Scottish Areas Face Sunday Rain: Met Office Map

The Met Office has released a weather map showing 13 areas across Scotland that are expected to experience heavy rain on Sunday, July 12, 2026, as the UK's recent heatwave begins to shift. While much of the country will enjoy warm, sunny conditions, northern Scotland will see cloud and downpours from a cold front.

Heatwave Continues for Most of UK

The UK has been experiencing a heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 35°C on Friday. The highest temperature recorded on Friday was 35.5°C in Surrey. Scotland reached 29.3°C in Charterhall, while Cardiff's Bute Park in Wales hit 31.3°C and Northern Ireland recorded 27.5°C in Killowen. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued amber and yellow heat health alerts for several parts of England as the hot weather persists.

Sunday's Forecast: Rain in Scotland, Sunshine Elsewhere

The Met Office forecast for Saturday night and Sunday states: "Patchy rain easing across Scotland. Low cloud becoming more extensive across central and eastern areas, with clear spells remaining in the west. A warm night, but windy in the south. On Sunday, low cloud will quickly burn back to the coasts to leave plenty of sunshine, though it may tend to remain cloudier across Scotland. Windy in the south. Very warm."

But conditions are expected to improve over the weekend. There is a possible increase in thunderstorms from Monday in parts of the south, however most areas will remain dry, sunny and very warm into the coming week."
