A Ryanair flight from Scotland to Portugal was forced to divert to Spain after the pilot declared a mid-air emergency, leaving holidaymakers around 120 miles from their intended destination.
Flight RYR66AH departed Edinburgh Airport at approximately 7.16am on Monday morning after a short delay, with passengers expecting to land in Faro for a holiday. However, as the aircraft neared its destination, the pilot activated the emergency alarm.
Diversion to Seville
Radar data showed the plane circling over Portugal before aborting the landing approach. Instead of touching down at Faro Airport, the pilot turned the aircraft and crossed the border into Spain.
The plane landed in Seville at 9.55am, leaving passengers stranded roughly 120 miles from where they had planned to arrive.
Cause remains unknown
The reason for the mid-flight emergency has not yet been disclosed. No further details have been released about what triggered the issue inside the cabin.
