A NATO F-16 fighter jet burst into flames while making an emergency landing at Zakynthos (Zante) Airport in Greece on Thursday afternoon, according to officials. The aircraft was on a training mission over the Ionian Sea when an in-flight fire indication prompted the pilot to divert to the nearest airfield.

The F-16, part of NATO's enhanced Air Policing mission in the region, landed safely on the runway, but flames erupted from the aircraft shortly after touchdown. Greek Defence Ministry officials also confirmed that the pilot was unharmed and that the aircraft sustained significant damage. The F-16 is part of a multinational detachment deployed to Greece for air policing duties.
