A giant inflatable ball used as a promotional display for the World Cup broke free from its structure during heavy rain and strong winds in San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, on Sunday.
Chaos in Zona Rosa
The massive ball rolled through the streets of the Zona Rosa neighborhood, bouncing in front of drivers and pedestrians. Video footage shows the ball careening down roads, narrowly missing vehicles and people.
Weather Conditions
The incident occurred as a storm swept through the city, bringing heavy rain and gusty winds that likely caused the ball to detach from its moorings.
No injuries or major damage were reported, though the spectacle caused brief panic among those in the area.
The ball was part of promotional activities for the upcoming World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico in 2026.
