A huge fire has broken out in Barcelona, sending a thick cloud of black smoke above the city that was visible from a Ryanair flight overhead. The blaze is in the Collserola area, close to the Canyelles neighbourhood in Nou Barris, with images from the scene showing flames and smoke billowing into the sky.
Witness reports of explosion
One person posting on X claimed a high-voltage tower had exploded, although this has yet to be confirmed by authorities. A witness said a high-voltage transmission tower exploded near Canyelles metro station.
Smoke visible from plane
Smoke from the fire was also visible from a Ryanair flight above Barcelona. A video shows smoke from the blaze rising above the city.
