A 2.2 magnitude earthquake struck Grimsby in Lincolnshire on Tuesday evening (August 25), shaking residents and leaving them startled. The tremor was felt across the east coast town, along with neighbouring Cleethorpes and the wider vicinity, shortly before 7.50pm.

Data from the British Geological Survey website confirmed the 2.2 magnitude seismic event, with the earthquake's depth measured at 5km. The tremor struck at around 7.50pm, causing residents to feel a sudden shake.

Local people took to social media to describe sensing 'shakes' and 'rumbles'. One resident said: "I felt what felt like a really quick shake in my house, I thought something heavy had fallen down upstairs or in the loft."
