ITVX adds controversial true crime series My Killer Father

The three-part true crime documentary My Killer Father: The Green Hollow Murders has been added to ITVX, where it can now be streamed for free. The series, previously released on Paramount+ in the US and UK earlier this year, has divided viewers with its controversial ending.

The documentary follows a woman in Iowa trying to prove that her late father was one of the most prolific serial killers in American history. It centres on a family torn apart after a "devastating confession," as law enforcement, forensic experts and dog handlers excavate a property to determine whether claims that one man murdered between 50 and 70 women over 30 years are true or fabricated.

What the Series Covers

An official synopsis reads: "Small town rumours spark a devastating confession and tears a family apart in this chilling documentary. The story of serial killer Don Stacey."

ITVX has shared a warning that the documentary contains "strong language" as well as "distressing scenes."

Viewer Reactions

One viewer admitted it was "absolutely insane," adding in a social media video: "This is an absolutely fascinating watch and like I said, an unbelievable story." Another replied: "Watched it last night, really interesting," while others echoed: "ummmm whatttt! so crazy" and "This one WAS nuts."

One person dubbed it "scary to watch," and another admitted: "I watched this absolute madness." In a separate video, a true crime fan branded it "bizarre," with one reply: "this is a strange one but it's good."

Controversial Ending

On Reddit, one viewer stated: "I disagree with the people who thought the documentary was a waste of time. I thought it was very well done. The visuals were haunting, the interviews were thought provoking, and the overall storytelling kept my attention."

However, the ending has proven controversial, with some viewers left disappointed. One person wrote: "I started it last night and finished it this morning. What a devastating and frustrating documentary," while another echoed: "I hated the way this ended. We need at least 5-7 more episodes to dig more." On Facebook, one person fumed that "they left us hanging on this one," with many saying they would watch over the weekend.
