Freeview experienced a nationwide technical issue on 19 October 2026, leaving some television viewers with access to only one channel, according to user reports on the Down Detector website.
The website stated: "Freeview: User reports show possible problems with Freeview." It added: "Freeview delivers free digital TV and radio across the UK via aerial featuring over 70 channels, 30 station and on-demand content through Freeview Play for streaming and catch-up services."
Transmitter Work Reported
Daily Star reporter Adam Cailler first noticed the problem when he reported: "A top investigative reporter (my mum) spoke to Freeview. Apparently they're doing work on the transmitter things all day."
On X/Twitter, TV fans complained about the transmission issues. One person said: "That's rare. Freeview just lost itv1 and upwards." Another added: "Only BBC1 and 2 left. I'll retune it."
Viewers Report Signal Problems
One user shared a picture of their TV screen which read: "No signal. Currently scanning for signals or no signal has been found." The screen also advised: "Please check if the aerial cable has been connected properly. Press the [button] on your remote to change to another input."
Another user replied: "Mine is the same. Keeps cutting off saying no signal," while a second said: "Mine keeps going off even after retuning," and a third added: "Same here."
Intermittent Issues Reported
Someone else explained: "It seems to be an intermittent aerial & outout issue. Same issue here but with channel 5 freeview channels." Another user noted: "Turned off and back on again & works. The broadband streaming not an issue."
The outage affected viewers across the nation, with some left with only a couple of channels during the day.
