A popular Twitch streamer has been permanently banned from the platform after broadcasting a violent car crash live from an Atlanta highway. The incident, which occurred on Saturday night, involved Jalen Melton, 24, who streams under the name MeltIsLIVE, and four passengers.
The Live-Streamed Collision
Melton was broadcasting from inside his car as it travelled along a Georgia highway. The viral footage showed him and his friends smiling, with the streamer allegedly saying 'bye-bye' moments before impact. The crash happened when a friend, identified as Jayshaun, with whom Melton was allegedly racing, struck the back left side of his vehicle.
Screams filled the car as it began to spin out of control. A passenger was seen shielding her eyes before a loud crash was heard and the camera feed cut to black. In the aftermath, the moans and cries of injured passengers were audible, with Melton instantly blaming Jayshaun for the collision.
Aftermath and Platform Response
Additional footage emerged from another friend who was also livestreaming while driving past the scene. It showed Melton's totalled car with debris scattered across the road and airbags deployed. While the full extent of injuries remains unclear, a friend of Melton's named Mari posted from a hospital bed describing a gruesome leg injury sustained in the crash.
Twitch acted swiftly, issuing a permanent ban on Melton's channel. Attempts to access his page now show a message stating it is unavailable due to a violation of Twitch's Community Guidelines or Terms of Service.
A Pattern of Reckless Behaviour
In a clip from a stream after the accident, Melton described himself as 'traumatised' and claimed it was not a 'skill issue', stating he 'wasn't speeding' but merely 'happened to be going faster than the person next to me'. This defence found little sympathy online, where viewers criticised his lack of accountability.
This was not the first time MeltIsLIVE has crashed while livestreaming. He was involved in another collision in April 2024, moments before he said he needed to pull over to avoid repercussions from Twitch for using his phone while driving.
