Yoto Mini 4th Gen: Screen-Free Kids' Player Praised

The Yoto Mini 4th Gen, a screen-free audio player for children priced at £89.99, has become a hit with families, with parents reporting fewer meltdowns and reduced screen time. The device, along with the larger Yoto Player 4th Gen at £119.99, is designed for children aged 3 to 12+ and uses interchangeable cards to play stories, music, and podcasts without a screen.

New Features for 2026

New for Christmas 2026, both devices include a Green Button that lets parents set up personalised playlists via the free Yoto App, allowing children to access up to 20 favourite audio titles without inserting a card. The full-size Yoto Player also features a night-light panel with seven colours, suitable for creating a calming bedtime atmosphere or as a visual cue for waking time.

The Yoto Mini is built for families on the move, with a compact, splash- and dust-resistant design. It is suitable for holidays, visits to relatives, and longer car journeys, while the full-size Player may be better for a child's bedroom or a dedicated listening spot at home.

Parent Reviews and Content

Yoto has amassed more than 46,000 reviews and a 4.4-star rating on TrustPilot. One parent of five, who has used both 3rd- and 4th-generation players, said: “We absolutely adore Yoto. Each child has their own Mini, and we keep a full-size player in their bedroom for bedtime stories and shared listening. The biggest benefit has been reduced screen time. We’ve seen fewer meltdowns, better emotional regulation, more imaginative play, and growing vocabularies. Unlike screens, Yoto seems to leave them calmer rather than overstimulated. I also love how independently they can use their players. Even my youngest learned to insert and remove cards at around a year old.”

Another parent commented: “Simply the best kids player on the market. So versatile. It helps with all of our routines as a family, and our kids love it.” A third called it “hands down the most used gift in the house”, noting that their 7- and 5-year-old use their Yotos nearly every day. The parent added: “They love that they are able to listen to whatever they want without help from parents, and we, the parents, love that it's not a screen device. We have had some issues here and there, but customer service was quick to resolve them. Every time someone asks me what to get a similar-aged child, I respond with Yoto.”

Content and Alternatives

Available content includes books such as Matilda and The Chronicles of Narnia, music from David Bowie and the Spice Girls, the K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack, and favourites like Numberblocks, as well as Yoto originals. One downside noted by a parent is the limited content for older children. She said: “My only wish would be to see more content aimed at older kids, as well as more cards featuring popular music artists. It would be wonderful to see Yoto grow with children as they get older.”

Alternatives include the Toniebox 2 (£104.99), which uses hand-painted figurines and features headphone connectivity and a sunrise alarm, and the StoryPhones player (£79.99, Currys), built into headphones with up to 20 hours of battery life and volume limiting. The Yoto Player 4th Gen costs £119.99 and the Yoto Mini 4th Gen costs £89.99, both available from Yoto's website.
