The aosu R1 Ultra Wireless Video Doorbell provides sharper 5MP UHD footage, faster alerts with fewer false pings, and subscription-free storage, according to a review by Daily Star reporter Andréa Oldereide.
Living in a city flat, the reviewer wanted a clear picture, fast alerts, and a device that doesn't need constant charging. After testing the R1 Ultra, the reviewer found it delivers on these fronts, calling it a next-generation doorbell.
Video Quality and Lens
The R1 Ultra records in 5MP UHD, which aosu says is around a 60% improvement over standard 2K systems. In practice, this translated into sharper footage where faces, clothing colours, and small details were easier to make out, even in poor lighting.
The doorbell uses a seven-element optical glass lens and enhanced WDR to handle tricky lighting conditions, from bright sunshine to gloomy evenings. Its 166° head-to-toe viewing angle means you see the doorstep properly, including parcels left on the ground.
Motion Detection and Battery
The R1 Ultra uses a triple-layer motion detection system: radar sensing, PIR motion detection, and AI human recognition. This aims to reduce false alerts, and the reviewer found it more accurate than basic motion detection, with faster notifications when someone was actually present.
Battery life is a key selling point. aosu says you can get up to 180 days from a single charge, helped by a low-power wireless connection that cuts energy use by 58%. The reviewer noted it's the first battery doorbell they've tried where they weren't immediately worrying about when it would die.
Storage and Setup
A major plus is the included aosuBase Mini, which provides subscription-free local storage with 8GB built in and 60-day loop recording. This allows you to review footage without paying monthly fees, a feature the reviewer says makes the difference between a doorbell you keep long-term and one you ditch after a free trial ends.
Setup supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz) for a stable connection. The aosu app offers live view, event history, and custom detection zones. Two-way audio lets you speak to couriers, and the device integrates with Alexa and Google Assistant.
The aosu R1 Ultra is available now on Amazon UK with an RRP of £139.99, currently listed at £99.98 with a 29% discount.
