Water is pretty important when you think about it. It's pretty much the epicentre of our existence and of what our bodies need to function and stay healthy. Sure, it's great to swim in and water the garden with it, but it's the service it provides to our bodies that makes it vital to our very existence.
I like water, I especially like cold water, and I really like clean water - which is why testing out this new Waterdrop PT-72W Glass Water Filter Jug was an easy win.
First Impressions
The first thing I noticed on unboxing the item is that it is a pretty large 1.5L round pitcher. Assembly was a doddle, a 60-second job, and we followed the instructions for flushing the filter through before the first use.
I'd expected something smaller, and my wife instantly looked at it and said 'That won't fit in the fridge door'. I agreed and started to wonder if it would fit on any shelves in the fridge. We have one of those American fridges that's too big for its own boots.
As it happens, the pitcher DID fit in the fridge door, quite perfectly. It is a big glass jug, quite heavy, but the bonus is that it holds so much liquid, so you don't have to keep filling it up every couple of hours.
Design and Build
The jug's weight is largely due to its glass construction. Most filtration jugs these days are plastic, so this is a bit unique in that respect. It has a high-quality feel with a rubberised anti-slip base, and it doesn't look out of place on a table when used outside the fridge.
It's very easy to clean; however, it is not dishwasher safe. Luckily for me, we don't have a dishwasher, so I couldn't get that wrong. Unluckily for me, I am the dishwasher in the house.
Filtration Performance
Now for the sales pitch that reads '5-stage filter materials including advanced carbon fibre, ion exchange resin and activated carbon block, and can efficiently reduce chlorine, mercury, taste and odour, copper, cadmium, PFOA and PFOS, sand, sediment and large particles.' That all sounds very science-heavy and very in-depth, and all of the claims have been verified and tested by a third-party lab.
Good enough for me, as in all honesty, I wouldn't know how to check any of the above. What I do know is that I prefer drinking water from a glass, and I like to know that the water I am drinking is fresh and clean. It certainly tasted that way, and it was good to know that a level of treatment had ensured I was drinking the crispest water I could be.
The filters last either 200 gallons or 2 months, whichever you get to first. There's a dial on the top that you can set to remind you when it needs changing.
Filling the jug is obviously adding water from a tap, and that's when the filter earns its money. The water flows through the filter pretty quickly. I remember previously owning a jug and having to wait an awfully long time for it to get through. That's not the case here; it's quick and efficient.
Value for Money
If this were a plastic jug, I might be baulking at the cost, but with it feeling like a premium glass product, I had no complaints. The Waterdrop PT-72W Glass Water Filter Jug is available for £39.99 from Amazon.
What Users Say
User 1: 'If your tap water is already of good quality, and you're looking for a final stage of filtration to get rid of that typical Chlorine smell and tap water taste, the Waterdrop Glass Jug does that perfectly. It retains minerals, and I can't tell the difference between this and supermarket bottled water. If your main goal is dropping the TDS, you will need to look toward Zerowater. If your tap water is over 500 ppm, I'd be looking for an RO system. For me, this ticks all the boxes, fits nicely in the fridge, is well priced and has good pricing for the filters as time goes on (each one lasts 2 months depending on usage).'
User 2: 'This is a very good filter jug and streets ahead of the plastic ones. It pours easily without dripping, filters quickly, and, if you live in a fluoridated or chlorinated area, removes the smell and taste, leaving filtered water that is better than bottled water. A good buy for the price.'
