British Airways has unveiled a major update for passengers that could make summer travel smoother. The airline announced the rollout of a new mobile app this week, designed as a "faster, smarter, more reliable travel companion" to enhance the customer journey. The app is being progressively released, with additional features expected in the coming months, including a real-time baggage-tracking system.
Key Features of the New App
The new British Airways app includes a fresh design and intuitive navigation, full integration of booking, check-in, and digital boarding passes that can be saved to Apple and Android mobile wallets even offline. It is powered by real-time operational data, delivering live journey updates for flights from London Heathrow and Gatwick, along with alerts and push notifications. A new 'day of travel' home screen shows relevant information at the right time.
Increased self-service options allow customers to manage bookings independently, and passport scanning minimizes physical document checks. Biometric and secure profile management, interactive terminal maps, and lounge occupancy information for Heathrow Terminal 5 are also included.
Quote from British Airways Executive
Colm Lacy, British Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, said: "We listened to our customers and recognised the need for a different app, one that prioritises the features that matter most. The new platform provides a strong foundation, enabling us to introduce new functionality more quickly, shaped by customer feedback. What’s exciting is that the initial phase of the rollout is just the beginning for us."
Benefits for Club Members
British Airways Club members can track their Avios, Tier Points balance, and status progress through the app. They can also check statements, edit personal details, store passport details for future flights, and access redeemable vouchers.
Additional Travel Advice
The airline also advised passengers to carry a copy of their prescription for medication to avoid delays at security. A BA spokesperson said: "If you need to take regular medication, it’s important to pack enough essential medication for your personal use on board - and for the first few days of your journey - into your smaller under-seat item of hand baggage."
