Inaugural Summer Dance Fest Showcases Young Talent in East Ayrshire
Summer Dance Fest: Young Stars Shine in East Ayrshire

Young dancers from across East Ayrshire took centre stage when East Ayrshire Council’s Creative Minds Team presented the inaugural Summer Dance Fest in the Big Top at Dean Castle Country Park, Kilmarnock. The event, funded by the National Lottery, brought together performers of all ages for an evening celebrating creativity, commitment and the incredible diversity of talent across the area.

Free Dance Workshops and Professional Guidance

Summer Dance Fest provided free dance opportunities for young people, who took part in jazz and hip-hop sessions led by professional dance artists Louise Chudleigh and Carrie Craggs. Through their participation, dancers developed new skills, built confidence, expressed themselves creatively and formed friendships with young people from across Ayrshire, which was all on display on stage.

Diverse Performances and Special Guests

Audiences were treated to an exciting programme of jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, contemporary, ballet and tap performances from the Youth Dance Company, After School Dance Group and Teacher Performance Group, alongside special guest performers from Loudoun Academy, Fenwick Primary School and I-DANCE.

Organiser's Reflections

Produced by Zara Smith, Cultural Co-ordinator for Dance and Movement with the Creative Minds Team, Zara said: “Summer Dance Fest was a wonderful celebration of everything our young people have achieved this year. It was fantastic to see so many dancers performing with confidence and pride, showcasing not only their talent but also the friendships, resilience and personal growth they have developed along the way. Stepping onto a stage takes courage, and every performer should be incredibly proud of what they accomplished. The support from families, teachers and the wider community helped make the evening truly special.”

Grand Finale and Community Support

The event concluded with a rousing finale featuring all performers, bringing together participants from across East Ayrshire in a fitting celebration of dance, community and creativity. East Ayrshire Council thanked all dancers, teachers, families and supporters, as well as Louise Chudleigh, Carrie Craggs, the National Lottery and Ayrshire 360 staff, whose support helped make the first Summer Dance Fest such a memorable occasion.
