Newcastle's Three Mile pub in Gosforth made history by hosting the region's first-ever arm-wrestling competition, Newcastle Warzone, on Saturday 4th July 2026. The event drew 30 competitors from as far afield as Scotland and Brighton, highlighting the sport's rapid growth in the UK.
Local Club Shines on Home Turf
The newly renamed North East Marra's arm-wrestling club, founded three years ago, represented Newcastle with distinction. All ten of the club's pullers returned home with medals. Among the standout performances was Sunderland's Kevin 'The Bull' Legg, who became the UK's first competitive puller with Down syndrome, securing two bronze medals in the Novice class with support from his team.
Taylor Rawson, aged 18, won his class and claimed the overall silver medal on the left arm in an impressive competition debut. Super heavyweight Paul Scott dominated the left arm, remaining undefeated and winning two gold medals.
Other Notable Winners
Clark Brettwood took his class and overall gold on the right arm, with teammate Lloyd taking silver and fellow teammate Neil earning bronze. The competition ran from 12pm to 6:30pm, concluding with sore elbows but many happy participants.
Club's Safety Record and Growth
The club, which hosts pop-up events across the region, is open to all and teaches safe arm-wrestling techniques.
